Of Great Minds and Grated Ones
The following is an excerpt from BlueCat's sight. Ed's Thoughts follow.
“ What were you doing one year ago today?

"Blue_cat.livejournal.com: 19-Mar-2006 - It was a Sunday and it appears I was posting (& therefore thinking) about Religion vs Science in the faith argument, Racism in the work place, Sperm donor anonymity and the quandary on what to tell the children born of donor eggs."
Now that is an impressive mind!
BlueCat is what I would call a socioccist(as opposed to 'narcissist') - one exhibiting erotic interest in all that matters as opposed to only that with tangible self-serving matter. 'Eroticism' does not have to be associated solely with sexuality. There can be intellectual, spiritual, etc, eroticism. After all, at the core of the idea of eroticism we'll find the experience of 'heightened or extreme pleasure'. To link the idea of 'eroticism' solely to sex is telling of the evolutionary stage humanity is mired in where nothing gives as much a 'kick' than sex. For myself, I would love to intellectually copulate with BlueCat.
"Aiyah,(aiyah - local singaporean 'whine') Think
sooo much for whaaat?!"
...would be the general local (chinese) response to
such wonderings prior to them moving away from you or resolving not to associate with you in the future. People like 'BlueCat' will be treated like a pariah here in 'vibrant', 'creative' and 'advanced' singapore and be spoken about along the lines of, "Aiyoh, this person always talk sooooo much cock!"(cock - rubbish, nonsense) - I speak from vast personal and vicarious experience. These people consider themselves a 'practical' lot, which basically means, to them, one who concerns oneself in preparing for the needs that will inevitably arise when one does not question the powers-that-be - i.e. how to make as much at the expense of, or in competitive antagonism with, just about everyone they meet; how to cope with the increasing pressures of society, work, etc, via compensatory and recuperative means like sports, marriage, children, shopping and eating; and how to exert additional 'control' over their destines via feng shui, charms, lucky numbers; and passing on the burdens of the expenses incurred in their old-age to their children. Practical? Yes, but only when your empathetic field of vision extends no further than yourself, but 'myopic' when it does extend to include the entire collective. Intelligence, in such a pathetic state of affairs, is thus channeled, in its inclinations and development, down profitable avenues only.
No wonder why 'great
mind' and 'singaporean' is an oxymoron - unless, of course, the definition of
'great mind' was pegged to the perspectival/intellectual standards and produce of those who
have the most appeal to the thus minuscule-ised minds.
Anyway, as posted on BlueCat's site,
...my response to the 'Query of the Day' - I assume that is what 'Qotd' is an acronym for - is,
"Practicing mnemonics so that I could remember a year from then what I was doing then."

Interesting way of putting it - Actually one of the reasons I am interested in the last to items related to donor concieved people is that I am adopted, and the information / activism towards 'right to know' for DCP is very similar to that for adoption.
I do however find people, and society, facinating ~ although sometimes horrifying.
