Herbie Hancock n Axel F ringtone
Well, it's a 'Herbie Hancock and Harold Faltermeyer' ringtone actually. The title says 'Axel F' because 'Harold Faltermeyer' would probably elicit a, 'Harold what!?". Harold F is the one who did the 'Axel F' tune actually - popularised in 'Beverley Hills Cop'. I loved that film, spoke of the simplicity, laid back attitude and non-pretentiousness of that cultural genre. Eddie Murphy was just plain 'natural' without any airs or pretensions to being somebody because his features 'fit the bill' of 'what's cool'. It was character that was sold to a people of (relatively greater) character.
Herbie Hancock's vid was considered 'hi-tech' back then. Oi! Nothing to laugh about alright. You gotta crawl before you run right? I remember when Herbie's crew did the 'moonwalk' during the grammys then. "Wow! Far out man!" was my first and second reaction. Me and my 'crew' got down immediately after the show and started practicing. I was the first to be able to do it, which elicited more 'Wow's' and 'far outs'. Quite a thrill back then...as the saying goes, 'Little things please little ...." Breakdancing in public was forbidden back then. These people don't look kindly on impromptu displays of passion and vibrancy. I suppose, if unchecked in its early stages, it could lead to 'passion and vibrancy' evolving and being displayed in more intelligent arenas, which, I suppose, would threaten the ill-rationalised tenure of any authority dependent on a passionately retarded population to do as they please. In other words, stifle the 'wrong' attitude, and intellectual/perspectival underdevelopment follows. Interesting formula isn't it.
That is why, I suppose, I am not disinclined to say, with an appreciable degree of pride, "I am, despite singapore".
