Camouflage ringtone - the great commandment
This hit by 'Camouflage' - 'The Great Commandment' - was quite popular in the 80s, especially amongst the 'ah beng' community(considered as the 'uncouth' and 'yob' sector of the chinese community. One of my fave tunes though i wasn't an 'ah beng' myself. I got on famously with them though.). I remember a friend of mine, known to me as 'Yeo'(an 'ah beng' himself), who always mistook the first sentence in the song, "Some people suppress you", for, "The angels surprise you". He use to croon it whilst smoking in his bed in our bunk, whilst we were in the army, in the wee hours of the morning with his dyed hair falling over half his face, a la Duran Duran. We(myself and my 'ah beng' friends) would usually get him to shut up by propelling, in tandem at the count of 3, our spent cigarettes onto his bed which would in turn see him jumping off the bed-turned-ashtray muttering, with a smile, some chinese expletives. Great friend of mine this guy 'Yeo', but, like most of the 'lazy thinkers' in this country, he tended to make sense of reality within the miniscule boundaries of existing sensibilities - which also comes from the belief that one's knowledge is sufficient for comprehending all of reality - extremely ethnocentric these people.
Note the element of critical thought and rebellion in the vid. You may not be shabbily attired, but that does not mean you are not shabbily used and abused.
